Cachar District Administration to honour Kalikaprasad Bhattacharjee on 56th birth anniversary in Silchar

way2barak, September 10: The Cachar District Administration in association with Silchar Sangeet Vidyalaya will organise a befitting programme on Friday, September 11, 2026 to commemorate the 56th birth anniversary of legendary folk artist and researcher Late Kalikaprasad Bhattacharjee at the auditorium of Silchar Sangeet Vidyalaya, Park Road, Silchar at 6 PM.

Born on September 11, 1970 in Silchar, Assam, Late Kalikaprasad Bhattacharjee made an indelible contribution to the preservation, research and popularisation of folk music. The Government of Assam observes his birth anniversary every year as ‘Lok Sanghati Divas’ commemorating his immense contribution to folk culture and music.

As part of the observance this year, the Regional Office of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar, Assam will play the songs and musical creations of the legendary folk artist as a remembrance of his enduring contribution to the world of folk music.

The evening programme at the Silchar Sangeet Vidyalaya auditorium will feature floral tributes to Late Kalikaprasad Bhattacharjee. The floral tribute will be paid by Additional District Commissioner, Cachar, Devid Kumar Borah, ACS, Cultural Development Officer, Cultural Affairs Department, Snehangshu Roy along with other dignitaries, prominent cultural personalities and artists of Silchar.

The programme will also feature a chorus rendition of a song of Late Kalikaprasad Bhattacharjee by artists, followed by an hour long cultural programme presented by renowned artists of Silchar as a tribute to the legendary folk artist and researcher.

The observance is intended to remember and celebrate the rich musical legacy of Late Kalikaprasad Bhattacharjee and his lasting contribution towards folk music and cultural heritage.
