Cachar gears up for Census 2027 as training of field staff begins on Monday

way2barak, July 19: The groundwork for the Census of India 2027 is set to begin in Cachar with the launch of a district-level training programme for Supervisors and Enumerators at Cachar College, Silchar, from Monday. The exercise is an important step in preparing the field workforce that will be responsible for carrying out census-related activities across the district.

Spread over four phases the programme will train Supervisors and Enumerators in the procedures and practical aspects of field enumeration. Officials said the sessions have been designed to familiarise participants with census schedules, methods of data collection, verification procedures, reporting formats and the responsibilities expected of field personnel during the survey.

Training will be conducted from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. each day. The first phase will be held on July 20, 21 and 22, followed by the second phase on July 24, 25 and 27. The third phase is scheduled for July 29, 30 and 31, while the fourth and final phase will take place on August 3, 4 and 5.

Meanwhile, the officials associated with the programme said careful preparation of field staff is essential for ensuring that information collected during the census is accurate, complete and uniform. Along with classroom sessions, participants will also be guided through the practical aspects of fieldwork so that they are well equipped to handle responsibilities at the grassroots level.

It is noteworthy to mention here that the Census remains the country’s most extensive statistical exercise, providing vital demographic and socio-economic data that forms the basis for planning, resource allocation and the formulation of public welfare programmes. With preparations now underway, the district administration has begun the process of building a trained workforce capable of carrying out the exercise efficiently when the nationwide enumeration is taken up.
