An Awareness Rally in Silchar on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day

Way2barak, May 31 : Today, 31st May is World No Tobacco Day. On this occasion the District
Tobacco Control Cell, Cachar along with District Administration, Cachar have organised an awareness rally in Silchar town. The rally was flagged off by the Superintendent of Police, Cachar Sri. Numal Mahatta and participated by the Director of CCHRC, Padmashree Dr. Ravi Kannan, the Joint Director of Health Services, Cachar Dr. Ashutosh Barman, the Principal, Silchar Medical College & Hospital, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, the District Nodal Officer of District Tobacco Control Cell Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, the District Nodal Officer of District
Leprosy Cell, Dr. Sandip Roy, the District Health Manager of Assam Cancer Care Foundation Mr. Abhijeet Bhattacharjee, Dr. Adity Chakraborty, Dr. Ajit Kumar Dey, Dr. Ahimik Biswas, ASHAs, ANMs and volunteers from ACCF, NCC, Seva Kendra, Silchar, NSS, Lions Club, Rotary Club, NYKS, CCHRC, Cachar College, G C College, Radhamadhab College and other volunteers from various organizations.

It was a massive rally with about approx. 200 participants. On the very beginning Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Nodal Officer of District Tobacco Control Cell, Cachar welcomed all the delegates and all volunteers from various departments, Colleges and social organizations. The Superintendent of Police, Cachar Sri. Numal Mahatta, ACS flagged off the rally near D.C
Office, Cachar and the rally was ended at the S M Dev Civil Hospital, Silchar. The rally was ended by No Tobacco Pledge by all the participants at S M Dev Civil Hospital, Silchar.
The theme of the World No Tobacco Day of this year is “WE NEED FOOD, NOT TOBACCO”. The District Tobacco control Cell, Cachar has taken four strategies this year to curb down tobacco usage in the Cachar district.

On this World No Tobacco day today, the District Tobacco Control Cell, Cachar has launched miking at Silchar for awareness generation amongst the public. The district Tobacco Control Cell, Cachar has also organized some Street Drama at various prominent places of the district today. One talk Show at BTN, Silchar Centre was also attended by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed along with Padmashree Dr. Ravi Kannan on 28th May, 2023 to make people aware about the dreaded effects of tobacco on human health and to make the World No Tobacco day more meaningful.
