As against 862 scooties only 160 have arrived in Karimganj; meritorious students express grievance

Ceremonial distribution of scooties to meritorious students of HSLC exam 2022 begins in Karimganj district

way2barak, Dec.12: Though 862 meritorious students of Karimganj district were supposed to get the scooters under Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award on Monday, but till today, only 160 scooters were sent to Karimganj. This was clarified to the meritorious students and their guardians by Dr Mortuja Hussain, Principal of NC College, Badarpur in the capacity of Nodal Principal of Karimganj district for distribution of scooters.

Infact, Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika along with Biswajit Daimary, Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly distributed scooties among meritorious students in Karimganj district of Assam.  The scooters were distributed to 862 meritorious students under Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award. The scooters were given to boys securing 75% and girls securing 60% in HSLC examination, 2022.

However, even those who were ceremonially handed over the keys of the scooters were not given the vehicles. This led to temporal chaos among the students and the guardians who got the keys. Later on, while clarifying the issue, Dr Mortuja Hussain said, “Without insurance and registration, the scooters cannot be taken for ride on the road. An amount of Rs.11,870 is required for the purpose of insurance and registration of the vehicle. However, till now this amount has not been disbursed by the state government. As of now, only four trucks loaded with scooters have arrived here. In these four trucks, a total of 160 scooters have arrived, whereas our requirement is that of 862 scooters.”

“However, everyday trucks are entering our district with scooters. Moreover, today I have got the information that the money of insurance and registration will also be disbursed by the government today. If that is done, then the company will get the money. This year the process of applying for insurance will be done in online mode and it is mandatory for the owner to be present physically during the process of insurance. After the arrival of the vehicles, the students will be intimated from the company. At first, girls will be notified. May be around 20 to 25 scooters will be given on the 1st day. In order to make the process hassle- free, once you get an OTP in your registered mobile number, then come to the college and collect necessary documents and then go for taking your scooty,” added Dr Mortuja.

During the ceremonial distribution, Minister Pijush Hazarika said, “Attended the inaugural ceremony of ‘Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award’ along with Hon’ble Speaker of ALA Shri Biswajit Daimary today in Karimganj under which 862 meritorious students of HSLC 2022 exam will be receiving scooties. This landmark initiative by HCM Himanta Biswa Sarma Sir-led govt is a laudable step to encourage the bright students to become self reliant & contribute immensely towards nation building in the future.”

Earlier, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that All over Assam, 6,052 boys & 29,748 girls have received the award.
