Legendary singer Bhupinder Singh passes away

July 18: After the demise of Gazal King Jagjit Singh, another legendary singer Bhupinder Singh breathed his last on Monday at a Mumbai hospital. He was 82. He was suffering from several health complications. Bhupinder’s wife Mitali Singh confirmed about his death.

Mitali Singh, also a well-known singer said, “He was admitted to the hospital eight to ten days ago as he had some infection in the urine. After tests were performed, he tested positive for COVID-19. He passed away at around 7.45 pm on Monday.”

Bhupinder Singh is remembered for his memorable songs in films like Mausam, Satte Pe Satta, Ahista Ahista, Dooriyan, Haqeeqat, and many more. Some of his famed songs are Do Deewane Shaher Mein, Hoke Majboor Mujhe Usne Bulaya Hoga, Aane Se Uske Aaye Bahar, Kisi Nazar Ko Tera Intezar Aaj Bhi Hai, Beeti Na Beetai Raina, Dil Dhoondta Hai, Naam Gum Jayega, Ek Akela Is Shaher Mein, Huzoor Is Kadar bhi na Itra ke Chaliye. and many more.

Bhupinder was born in Punjab’s Amritsar and learnt guitar and violin. He sang several duets with Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi. Bhupinder Singh married the Bangladeshi singer Mitali Mukherjee and moved away from playback singing. Mitali Mukherjee is also a singer. Together, they performed at ghazal and live performances. They have a son named Nihal Singh who is also a musician.
