District administration intensify raids against unscrupulous traders for illegal price hike of commodities

May 22::The whole district is reeling under devastating floods, surface transport connectivity through road and rails are entirely cut off from rest of the state with Cachar. Meanwhile, taking advantage, vegetables and essential commodities are being sold at skyrocketing prices in the markets by some unscrupulous traders, which caused an uproar among common people. In a bid to check the prices of vegetables and essential commodities Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli intensified raids against such traders for allegedly involved in selling vegetables and essential commodities at high price in the markets.

On the direction of DC Cachar, officials of district agriculture and food & Civil supply department has launched a massive campaign to curb black marketing of vegetables and essential commodities available in the markets in various parts of Cachar district.  It is worthwhile to mention that the departmental officials conducted raids at Fatak Bazar, Tarapur, Ranghirkhari including few vegetable markets and shops selling essential commodities under Lakhipur, Katigorah circle and other markets in the district to keep prices under control.

Expressing her views, Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli stated that these kind of raids are being conducted against unscrupulous traders for allegedly involved in price hiking in the district. “There is no shortage of essential commodities in the district, people should not buy excess food and store them at their home. This will lead to artificial crisis. We have enough stock of commodities, so there is nothing to panic” she said.

DC Jalli further stated that if any trader or vendor is found involved in malpractices, a per law action will be taken against unscrupulous traders by the district administration Cachar and such issues will be dealt with strict hands.
People should refrain themselves from spreading rumours, DC Jalli added.

Meanwhile, in some areas of Silchar town electric supply has already been restored. In few areas repairing works are being carried by APDCL staff to restore uninterrupted power supply, drinking water is also being supplied by tankers in many parts of the town by Silchar Municipal Board. In a recent statement made by PHE department, it was stated that steel floating barge at Sadarghat, Silchar is not in working condition due to rising water level in the river. The rushing water caused severe damages in the pipe lines for which water supply is cut off for last few days and to restore water supply, repairing works is still going on. PHE officials are hopeful that within a day or two, restoration process will be completed.

It needs mention here that there are 99 relief camps in the district where flood affected people have taken shelter . In the relief camps, the administration has taken necessary steps to ensure supply of food materials and health care to the flood victims.
