Indian Railways conceptualises state-of-the-art multi-storied railway station in Silchar: MP Silchar

The new station will be built on the site of the existing Silchar railway station

May 11: “Indian Railways is all set to provide a major facelift to Silchar railway station and take a slew of steps for the overall infrastructure development of railway services in Barak Valley. Indian Railways has conceptualized for setting up of an International top-class multi-storied railway station in Silchar and a series of steps are being taken to improve the railway infrastructure in Barak Valley”. This was stated by Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy after a discussion with Ansul Gupta, general manager of North-East Frontier Railway in Guwahati on Monday.

In the meeting, Rajdeep Roy was also accompanied by three MLAs of Barak valley- Krishnendu Paul, Bijoy Malakar, Kaushik Rai and Cachar district BJP president Bimalendu Roy. In the meeting, the Northeast Frontier Railway officials had a detailed discussion with the delegation led by Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy on the development of the infrastructure of Silchar railway station.

During the discussion, Rajdeep Roy affirmed that a world-class railway station is all set to be built in Silchar. Rajdeep further stated that this process is already in progress and to expedite the process all efforts have been initiated from his end. It needs to mention that the top officials of the railways will come to Silchar to finalize the process. The new station will be built on the site of the existing Silchar railway station.

It’s worth mentioning that the new station will have multiple floors. Efforts are also being initiated to have separate entry and exits for the passengers. The station will have ancillary facilities including food court also. Dr Rajdeep Roy stated that the government of India has planned to build world-class railway stations in several places across the country including Silchar.

Rajdeep Roy also took an initiative and formulated a plan to introduce of Silchar-Guwahati Intercity Express. He further stated that the North-East frontier Railway is also planning to construct an alternative railway track via Chandranathpur- Lanka- Guwahati route. The launch of Patharkandi- Kanmun railway was also discussed on the day. “A survey was conducted in 2015 on Patharkandi- Kanmun railway route” Rajdeep mentioned.

“I also discussed with the manger, Northeast Frontier Railway, Ansul Gupta and we received a positive response from him in this regard as well. Besides, there has been a detailed discussion about the construction of an international railway station in Karimganj also,” added MP Silchar.

Elaborating on the context of infrastructural development of railway stations in Barak valley, Dr Rajdeep Roy said “Discussions were also held on reopening of railway stops at several stations in the valley, including Arunachal”.
Meanwhile, in a recent statement ,the NF Railway authorities have stated that railway authorities have planned to introduce Silchar- Guwahati Intercity Express as well as the Intercity Express from Barak Valley to Upper Assam.
