New bridge over Barak connecting Dudhpatil with Silchar to be completed by March 2023: DC Cachar
April 19: The construction of a new RCC bridge over river Barak near Itkhola Ghat which would connect Dudpatil and Silchar town including approaches and protection work has been completed to a considerable extent. The work would be completed within March 2023. This was said by the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli during her site inspection on Tuesday along with the officials of the concerned department.
Sharing her views, DC Keerthi Jalli stated that this new RCC bridge over river Barak is constructed under SOPTG for the year 2018-19. The overall length of the bridge is 330 metre, out of which, 250 metre stretch has been almost completed, except railing. It’s tender value is Rs. 75.29 crore. The remaining 80 metre (40 mtrs in Silchar side and 40 mtrs in Dudhpatil side) shall be completed within July 2022. As regards approach and protection work, these will be completed on or before March 2023. The quality of the work is also well maintained.
During her site visit on Tuesday, DC Jalli urged upon those who has still now not vacated the acquired land to do so within 24 April, 2022 so that the approach work can be started simultaneously for early completion of the bridge. DC Cachar said, “The public are supposed to vacate the land by now. They are just lingering on. However, this will be soon done and there is nothing to worry over it. There were actually no issue related to encroachment. We had alignment issue with district judiciary, which too was solved by the positive intervention of Guwahati High Court.”
“From the cost estimate which we made for the work, we have also made some savings with which we will try to repair the nearby roads. There is actually no financial issue connected with this project. Work is being done quite well. Infact, there was no over short of the estimate and we are hopeful to see the bridge completed very soon,” added the Deputy Commissioner.
