AIUDF to challenge Assam Govt in Supreme Court if it files petition seeking re-verification of NRC
March 29: A few days ago, during a meeting with the representatives of 27 organizations of the state in presence of Ministers Pijush Hazarika, Atul Bora & Yogen Mohan, the issue of submission of affidavit by Assam government for revision of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the Supreme Court of the country was discussed.
Reacting to this, the All India Democratic Fund (AIUDF) on Tuesday stated that the party will challenge Assam Government in the Supreme Court, if they file a petition seeking re-verification of the NRC. Stating this, AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam said that his party will file an Interlocutory Application in the Supreme Court if the state government files a petition seeking re-verification of the NRC.
The Supreme Court monitored final NRC was published on 31 August, 2019. Out of a total number of 3,30,27,661 applicants, the names of 3,11,21,004 were included in the final NRC. That means a total of 19,06,657 persons were excluded from the NRC.
