Ranoj Pegu praises Cachar for achieving ‘best performing district’ for transforming model villages under PMGAY

March 7: In a proud feat for Barak Valley, Cachar district has bagged the first place in the country in connection with implementation of the centrally sponsored scheme of Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMGAY) for integrated development of scheduled castes (SC) majority villages. This was informed via a letter by R. Subrahmanyam, Secretary, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India to Assam Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah in September last year.

The achievement got the attention of state minister for education, welfare of plain tribes & backward classes Dr. Ranoj Pegu who praised the Cachar district administration on Monday saying Cachar is the best performing district in Assam and India when it comes to implementation of schemes under the Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMGAY).

 

Dr Pegu, who is on a two-day visit to Barak Valley reached here on Sunday, visited Barsangan grant near Tapang, one of the PMAGY villages, on Monday. During his visit, he inspected the schemes taken up under the welfare of plain tribe and backward department followed by APDCL, PWD road and fishery department as well. He took a glance at the schemes related to Anganwadi centres and solar lights in the village and had an interactive session with teachers and students of Barsangan Grant LP School.

The minister also expressed his overwhelming satisfaction over the overall implementation of the PMGAY schemes and suggested that more such schemes to be taken up in the future in order to transform more villages which will result in expansion of the living standard of the populace. Earlier, Pegu inaugurated the Barsangan LP School and ‘ Saubhagya’ scheme under APDCL.

Besides, he had an interactive session with the local residents at KP Rai High school wherein villagers expressed their happiness saying that the schemes proved as blessings for them and their desolation has come to an end. They requested the minister to approve more such schemes in the neighbouring villages which are still deprived of the benefits that can be availed under PMGAY schemes.

It is pertinent to mention that Cachar district has achieved first rank in India as the best performing district for transforming model villages under the PMGAY. Pegu was accompanied by MP Silchar Dr Rajdeep Roy, Lakhipur MLA Kaushik Rai, District Development Commissioner Rajib Roy, Senior Planning officer, Planing & Development officer and a few others.
