Barak Valley registers 655 Covid +ve cases on Friday, 582 discharged & 2 deaths reported

There are 3,568 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

Jan 21: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually increasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Friday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 655 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. Further, during the day, 582 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 3,568 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Thursday, Barak Valley registered 738 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Friday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 431 positive cases   (It was 479 on Thursday)
  • Karimganj: 179 positive cases (It was 162 on Thursday)
  • Hailakandi:  45 positive cases (It was 97 on Thursday)

The number of coronavirus cases in Cachar district is gradually increasing. The District Health Department of Cachar updated the Covid-19 data of Friday at 6.30 PM. As per the latest data, the daily Covid count in Cachar crossed the 400-mark on Friday. A total of 431 persons were found positive in the district on 21 January. Also, 416 patients were discharged (406 from home & 10 from hospital) during the day. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 2,155 out of which, 1,968 are in home isolation whereas 187 are admitted in various hospitals of the district. On Thursday, 479 persons were found positive in Cachar.

As per the updated data, a total of 3,198 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 292 persons were found positive, whereas 139 were detected positive out of 397 RT-PCR Tests. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 Jan 2022 reached 4,598 whereas during this phase, 2,429 patients were discharged. This data was provided by the district health department from 12 noon of 20 January to 12 noon of 21 January, 2022.

There has been a gradual rise in the number of daily positive cases in Cachar district. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 20 January to 5 PM on 21 January) witnessed the death of 02 more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Friday evening.

The deceased were identified as:

  1. Amal Rabidas (54) from Nityanandapur Part-II in Hailakandi district tested Covid positive and was admitted at SMCH on 14 January. The patient, however, breathed his last at 8.15 PM on 20 January, 2022.
  2. Rakesh Suklabaidya (68) from Bahanwal in Cachar district tested Covid positive and got admitted at SMCH on 20 January. He died at 11.45 AM on 21 January, 2022.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 21 January, there were 39 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College. Further, 02 patients were put under ventilator support, and 09 in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 09 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 09 were discharged. A total of 60 patients were detected positive in RAT at SMCH and 16 in RTPCR on Friday. Majority of them detected positive on Friday opted for home isolation.

Jan. 21: On Friday, Hailakandi registered 45 (44 RAT & 01 RT-PCR) new COVID-19 cases. The district has altogether has 491 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 465 RAT tests and 29 RT-PCR tests were done. 69 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 8,991 (1st,  2nd & 3rd wave).

As of now, a total of 4,996 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 97 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Thursday. Till date, 54 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district.  A total of 1,366 persons were vaccinated on Friday.

There was a sharp rise in the number of Covid patients in Karimganj district. Karimganj registered 179 fresh COVID cases on Friday. The district has currently 948 active COVID cases, while 97 patients were discharged on Friday. 1,197 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 162 persons were detected positive in Karimganj on Thurssday.

On Friday, out of 56,849 tests, 6,897 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 6,84,954. The positivity rate in the state is 12.13 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,561 positive cases during the day. Further, on Friday, 15 died in the state due to COVID-19. The death toll in the state stands at 6,275. The recovery rate is 92.31 percent. Also, 2,979 persons were discharged during the day. There are at present 45,021 active Covid patients in the state.

India recorded 3,47,254 new Covid-19 cases, 703 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the total death toll to 4,88,396, according to the data released by the Ministry of Health on Friday (January 21, 2022). The active cases stand at 20,18,825. The country also recorded 2,51,777 recoveries today, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,60,58,806. The overall caseload now stands at 3,85,66,027, according to the data published by the Union health ministry. The number of Omicron cases reached 9,692, the ministry also informed.
