46-year-old man who tested +ve for Omicron variant in Karnataka had no travel history

Dec. 3: Amid the ongoing Omicron scare, two persons were detected positive for Omicron Covid variant in India so far. Out of the two, the 46-year-old man who was found positive for Omicron variant in Karnataka had no travel history. This was informed by Dr DK Sudhakar, Health Minister of Karnataka on Friday. This has become a real matter of concern for the health department.

As per a note released by the state health department, the sample of the man was collected on 22 November. A day prior to that, he developed symptoms of body ache and underwent RT-PCR test at a hospital on 22 November. He was declared positive at 4 PM on 22 November. However, noting low CT values, his samples were for Genomic Sequencing.

The man stayed under home isolation from 22 to 24 November. He got admitted at a hospital and after taking 3 days of treatment got discharged on 27 November. On contact tracing, it was found that, he had 13 primary and 205 secondary contacts. His three primary contacts and two secondary contacts tested positive between 22 and 25 November. All of them were isolated.
