Office of DC Cachar & Circuit House to shift; DC Jalli asked to allot new land within 10 days: HBS

CM to visit Silchar on Maha Saptami of Durga Puja

Sept. 20: There is hardly any space for expansion within the heart of Silchar. Keeping this aspect in mind, the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Cachar will be shifted from its existing place. An amount of Rs.50 crore has been set aside for this purpose. The DC Office along with its amalgamated offices will now be brought under one roof and will be named as ‘Integrated DC Office.’ This was stated by Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing the press on Monday morning at Circuit House during his 2-day visit.

The Chief Minister further stated that he has already instructed DC Keerthi Jalli to complete the allot land for this purpose so that the PWD may start the construction work at the earliest. CM Sarma also informed that the Circuit House will also be shifted from its existing place. “My intention is to shift the DC Office, Circuit House to the same spot. Further, there is also a talk of shifting Silchar Jail to Lakhipur where there has been a look out for land,” stated Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He further said, “There is no free space for people at all in Silchar town. So when these establishments will be shifted from outside Silchar town, sufficient free space will then be available. As in Guwahati, I have shifted the Soil Conservation office and build Sadbhavna Garden there. Even, we have shifted the Machkhuwa Jail and in its place, we have built a Botanical Garden. In a similar pattern, I have decided to do work in Silchar. When the 2nd block of the new DC office will be completed, then the non-amalgamated offices like PWD, Health etc. will also be shifted. At that moment, huge government land will be available within Silchar town which can be used as open space.”

The other aspects highlighted by Chief Minister while addressing the media on Monday were:

  • An all-weather road to Bhuvan Pahar will be build. The money will be sanctioned as per estimate. The road to be completed within 2 years.
  • The remnants of the royal palace at Khaspur has got huge potential for tourist attraction as it is near the airport. A Kalakhetram will be build at this centre. This area will be converted into a fine tourism destination.
  • Certain schemes have been taken in hand for the development of Silchar Medical College. A Cath Lab will be built here very soon. Another 500-bedded hospital here will be completed within next two years.
  • The Cancer Hospital, work for which has already began will be completed by 2022. This cancer hospital will have all top-end facilities for treatment of cancer facilities.
  • There is a proposal of Flyover at Rangirkhari point. The Chief Engineer will see the viability of this proposal.
  • Also, ways and means will be devised to solve the problem of drainage of Silchar town.
  • Rs.116 crore has been sanctioned and after Durga Puja, the work of Mini Secretariat will start in full swing.
  • The CM said that the bypass (Ring Road) will also be completed before Puja. One portion of this road has been taken by NHAI who will build Highway, but in another portion, we will be creating a connected road.
  • CM Assam to stay for 2 days at Karimganj in October, when he will try to resolve the issue of Karimganj Medical College.
