Lovlina has scripted a rare history getting Assam an Olympics medal for the 1st time, says Himanta Biswa Sarma

August 3: An elated Chief Minister of Assam, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Proud of you Lovlina Borgohai – Assam’s daughter & India’s pride. It’s a special day as you have scripted a rare history getting Assam an Olympics  medal for the first time ever. We cheer, celebrate and salute you. You are our SUPER WINNER Lovlina Party popper.”

India’s Lovlina Borgohain took home a bronze medal from the Tokyo Olympics after losing her semi-final bout in women’s welterweight (64-69kg) boxing to Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey via unanimous decision on Wednesday. Borgohain became the third Indian boxer after Vijender Singh and MC Mary Kom to win a medal at the Olympic Games.

Her success is deeply cherished & hugely honoured.”
