A huge candle light rally taken out in Hailakandi in protest against Mizo violence
July 28: The ‘cold blooded’ killing of 6 Assam Police personnel and injuring around 50 others including the Superintendent of Police of Cachar in a devastating shoot out by Mizo forces on Monday has sent a chill of anger among the people of the state. Such an inhuman act of violence has been severely resented by the people of Assam cutting across religious, linguistic or political affiliation. On Wednesday late evening, a candle light rally was taken out in Hailakandi town as a mark of protest against Mizo aggression and also as a tribute to the six martyrs of Assam Police who laid down their lives on the line of duty.
The candle light rally was spearheaded by a number of organisations including Hindu Jagran Manch, Yuva Vahini, Biswa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. Many persons in their individual capacity also participated in this candle march. The organisers of this rally raised the demand of proper investigation of this incident and brink to book all those who are involved in this incident. Demand was also raised to settle border issues of Assam with its neighbouring states through the intervention of the central government so that no such violent incident takes place in the future.
