6-year old Mizoram kid who took injured chick to hospital rewarded by his school
April 4: On Wednesday, 6-year old Derek C Lalchhanhima accidentally ran over his neighbour’s chick with his cycle at Sairang in Mizoram’s Aizawl district. Following this, he took the chicken and ran to the nearest hospital with all the money he had and asked for help to revive the chicken.
The story, posted on Facebook by a user ‘Sanga Says’ on Tuesday, has gone viral and has been shared over 87,000 times. The woman, who apparently clicked the picture of six-year-old Derek C Lalchhanhima with the injured chick, works as a nurse at the Sairang primary health centre. Derek was clicked showing the chick and handing over a Rs 10 note for its treatment to a medical practitioner.
The boy’s father, Dhiraj Chhetri, informed that the 6-year-old came home with the neighbour’s chick that he had accidentally killed. He could not understand that the chick was dead and begged his parents to take the chick to the hospital. His father told him to go himself, which he did with a Rs 10 note. His parents finally had to explain to him that the chick is dead and that there’s nothing they can do at the hospital.
A day after the image of young Derek C Lachhanhima’s innocent act of rushing a hurt chick to hospital in Mizoram went viral, his school, St Pio, in Sairang in Aizawl district, awarded him a certificate of appreciation on Thursday. A picture of the kid holding a certificate and flowers, with sunshine on his face, has now surfaced on social media.
The little boy is an epitome of goodness and shows to us that all is not lost. He does something which we adults often forget to do these days. We don’t even bother to stop to catch a glimpse of a human bleeding on road, forget about animals.
