577 kgs ganja seized, 3 arrested

way2barak, June 24: Based on a credible intelligence in the wee hours today, Cachar Police launched a special operation against the illegal transportation of narcotic substance at ISBT, Silchar near Silchar Bypass under the jurisdiction of Silchar Police Station and intercepted two vehicles bearing Regd No AS 01 EF/2494(Bolero) and TR01BQ/0462(verna) coming from Tripura and apprehended three persons namely,

1) Jyotish Debbarma, 38yrs S/o. Robicharan Debbarma vill. Ramsankar Para P.O. Uttar Dasgharia, P.S. Sidhai Mohanpur, Dist. West Tripura

2) Prasan Debbarma, 32yrs, S/o. Lt. Sujit Debbarma Vill. Rahi Sadar Para P.O. Ajindra Bazar PS. Jirania Dist.- West Tripura

3) Chiranjit Debbarma, 31 years, S/o. Samir Debbarma Vill.- Ramdas Thakur ParaP.O.- Sonaram Bazar P S. Sithai Mohanpur Dist.- West Tripura

During thorough search police team recovered 86 packets of ganja weighing about 576.58 kilograms suspected ganja concealed inside the vehicles. The price of the psychotropic substances is worth about Rs. 3 crores in the black market. The recovered narcotic substance has been seized in presence of independent witnesses. During the examination conducted at the place of occurrence,drug detection kit showed positive results for ganja. During preliminary investigation, it has come to light that the psychotropic substance has been illegally transported from Dharma Nagar, Tripura. Further investigation into the matter has been on.
