All pending prosecution relating to Gorkhas to be withdrawn from foreigners’ tribunals: CM Assam
Moran, Matak, Ahom, Chutia and Gorkha Communities in the list of protected classes of persons in Sadiya Tribal Belt
Aug 4: In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 160 of the Chapter-X of the Assam Land and Revenue Regulation,1886 (as amended), the Governor of Assam has included Moran, Matak, Ahom, Chutia and Gorkha Communities in the list of protected classes of persons in Sadiya Tribal Belt who are permanently residing there.
Apart from this, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has stated that all pending prosecution relating to Gorkhas to be withdrawn from foreigners’ tribunals. Taking to his twitter handle, CM Dr Sarma wrote, “You will be further happy to note that Assam cabinet took a decision today not prosecute any Gorkha citizen under the Citizenship Amendment Act 1955 and also to withdraw all pending prosecution relating to Gorkhas from foreigners tribunals.”
