3 more deaths registered in last 24 hours at SMCH

Sept. 17: The coronavirus pandemic has now led to a procession of death also in Barak Valley. Since the last few days, the valley witnessed many deaths, although all of them were not certified as COVID-19 deaths. However, this also cannot be ruled out that all of them were infected with coronavirus. Those COVID positive persons who die due to comorbidities are usually not certified as ‘Covid-19’ death by the State Death Audit Board.

On Thursday, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) informed that in the last 24 hours, the Valley witnessed 3 more deaths at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). All 3 of them are from Cachar district. The deceased were identified as:

  • Dhirendra Banik (85) from Rangirkhari in Silchar died at 5.45 AM on 17 September. His death was certified as Non-Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.
  • Uday Chandra Roy (73) from Palonghat breathed his last at 6.40 PM on 16 September. His death was certified as Non-Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.
  • Usha Karmakar (43) from Baladhan Tea Estate died at 12.30PM on 16 September. Her death was certified as Non-Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.
