PG admission in Assam Univ done without taking TDC marks into consideration, alleges ACKHSA
Merit list for admission in PG made on the basis of HSLC, HS and written entrance test, excluding TDC marks: ACKSHA
Dec. 15: Assam University, Silchar has recently declared the merit list for admission in various post-graduate courses in both Silchar and Diphu campus. However, the merit list for admission in PG courses has invited a huge controversy. In a memorandum addressed to the Vice Chancellor of Assam University on Tuesday, All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKSHA) has alleged that “The University for reasons best known to them has prepared the merit list for admission to PG courses on the basis of the marks secured by the students in HSLC, HS and written entrance test, but did not take into consideration the marks secured by the students in TDC.”
ACKSHA demanded to immediately annual the said “truncated merit list” and issue a fresh one taking into consideration the marks obtained by the students in their graduation along with HSLC, HS and written entrance test or else they will be bound to go for mass agitation. This was stated by Rupam Nandi Purkayastha and Prof. Niranjan Dutta, the two Advisors of ACKSHA during a press meet convened by them on Tuesday. They also informed that a detailed memorandum in this connection has already been sent to the Vice Chancellor of the University. They wrote, “ACLSHA demands immediate annulment of faulty merit list of candidates who appeared in the admission test and the calculated composite marks (excluding Degree) for Master’s Degree Courses (Session 2021-22).”
Prof. Niranjan Dutta, Adviser of ACKSHA denounced this act of preparing the merit list excluding the marks obtained by the students in BA, B.Sc & B.Com. He argued that this would definitely deprive a large section of students of Barak Valley from higher education who have scored well in their TDC examination. “We have never heard of such practice anywhere that for admission to PG, marks of TDC is not taken into consideration. If the Controller of Examinations is unable to declare results in time, then the admission process can be deferred, but it’s highly unethical and illegal to prepare the merit list for admission to PG only on the basis of marks obtained in HS, HSLC and written entrance test. We can never allow such type of activities to continue which is detrimental to the interests of the students.”
During the press meet, Rupam Nandi Purkayastha stated, “We are pained to state that the University is just playing with the future of the students of this region. Exhibiting a damn care attitude to the existing norms of admission, Vice Chancellor Dilip Chandra Nath on the basis of his whims and fancies have come up with this merit list for admission in PG courses, which we strongly denounce.”
In the memorandum addressed to the Vice Chancellor, ACKSHA wrote, “You have violated the relevant guidelines by calculating percentage of marks in 10th and 12th and excluding percentage of marks in Degree and turned the institute into a bureaucratic apparatus where your personal whims and fancies reigns supreme. Please make public who are your favoured candidates because of whom you have broken all rules and regulations?”
Apart from Rupam Nandi Purkayastha and Prof. Niranjan Dutta, the press meet on Tuesday was also attended by the three general secretaries of ACKSHA Rajiv Paul, Madhumita Dey, Joyshree Nath and Secretary Sukumol Das.
