After 9 months, visitors can now meet prisoners in jails of Assam
Jan. 4: Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in March, 2020, Assam Government debarred visitors to meet prisoners in the jails of Assam. However, with the COVID-19 graph coming down in the state, Assam government has reconsidered its decision after more than 9 months and will now be again allowing visitors to meet the inmates lodged in various prisons.
All inmates in the prisons of Assam will be allowed to meet their relatives twice a day. However, the visits will be allowed in strict adherence to COVID-19 safety measures. Assam currently has 31 jails including 6 Central Jails, 22 District Jails, 1 Special Jail, 1 Open Air Jail and 1 Sub-Jail.
