186 found Covid +ve in Cachar on 5 May; 2 deaths at SMCH

Active cases 764 in Cachar

May 5:  A total of 186 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Wednesday in Cachar. During the day, 1,483 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 115 persons were found positive, whereas 71 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Wednesday night. With this, the district tally of coronavirus cases has gone upto 1,960 in 2021. Again, 1,196 patients in this year were cured and discharged. It was informed that from now onwards, the District Health Department will provide the data only for the second wave of Covid-19.

Further, during the day, 518 air passengers arrived at Silchar Airport, out of which, 435 of them were tested. A total of 08 passengers were found to be positive during the Covid test at Mahatma Gandhi Model Hospital at Tikal on Wednesday. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, 248 persons were detected as Covid-19 positive in Cachar.

Apart from this Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed informed that out of the 764 active patients, 110 of them are admitted at SMCH, 09 in MH, 11 at SMDCH, 28 at Green Heals Pvt Hospital, 05 at CRPF Doyapur and 23 at Gracewell Nursing Home. Further, 578 patients are in home isolation.

On Wednesday too, SMCH witnessed deaths of two Covid-19 positive patients. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Wednesday night. The deceased were identified as:

  • Nayan Das (34) from Badarpur in Karimganj was admitted at SMCH on 30 April, 2021. He at present used to stay at Meherpur. A dance teacher by profession, Nayan Das breathed his last at 8.45 AM on 5 May.
  • Shyamal Das (55) from Karimganj was admitted at SMCH on 27 April. He died at 12.34 PM on 5 May.

As per protocol, the death details have been forwarded to the State Death Audit Board in Guwahati for final certification of Covid or non-Covid death.
