District-Level Akansha Haat in Silchar

way2barak August 2 : In a vibrant showcase of local enterprise and cultural pride, the Cachar District Administration inaugurated the District-Level Akansha Haat in Silchar on Saturday, under the banner of NITI Aayog’s ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative. The three-day event, started with participation from across the district, is designed to promote grassroots entrepreneurship, empower Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and celebrate the traditional craftsmanship that thrives in rural corners of the Barak Valley.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by District Commissioner of Cachar, Mridul Yadav, who delivered a compelling speech on the significance of the initiative. “Akansha Haat is not just a platform for economic activity, it is where community aspirations take the shape of self-reliant enterprises, where our cultural legacy finds a sustainable future,” he said.

DC Yadav emphasized that the District Administration remains committed to fostering a developmental ecosystem where innovation, rural enterprise and women-led initiatives are not only encouraged but actively supported. He also urged the local population to become responsible consumers by choosing homegrown products and supporting local talent.

Also present at the inaugural event were CO-District Commissioner of Lakhipur, Shri Dhrubajyoti Pathak, Chief Executive Officer of Cachar Zilla Parishad, Shri Pranab Kumar Bora, Additional District Commissioner Hemanga Nobis, and Shri Roktim Baruah.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Shri Pranab Kumar Bora stated that Akansha Haat is a symbol of rural resilience.

 “This is more than just a marketplace. Each stall here tells a story of creativity, hard work, and aspiration. Through these platforms, we enable local producers, particularly women-led SHGs, to directly connect with consumers and build sustainable livelihoods,” he quipped.

The fairgrounds, buzzing with activity and enthusiasm, feature over 50 stalls set up by SHGs from 7 blocks of Cachar district. Each stall offers a glimpse into the rich tradition and talent of the region. Visitors to the Haat are greeted with a range of unique, handmade items that highlight the innovation and resourcefulness of local communities.

Beyond commerce, the Akansha Haat also serves as a vibrant cultural platform. Later ,in the evening, local artists took the stage with performances rooted in the folk traditions of the Barak Valley, creating an immersive atmosphere that celebrates the district’s artistic heritage.
