District Administration Cachar launches NDD drive in Silchar, boosting awareness on child health and hygiene

way2barak, Dec 11: “Healthy children are the foundation of a strong nation,” asserted by the District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, IAS, while addressing the District-Level Launching of National Deworming Day (NDD) at Abhayacharan Bhattacharjee LP School, Silchar here on thursday .Delivering his address at the the programme, the DC underscored the importance of instilling healthy habits, hygiene practices and nutritional awareness among young students. He urged children to remain mindful of personal cleanliness and good dietary habits, noting that such practices significantly contribute to their overall growth, immunity and future well-being.

 

The event, organised by the District Administration Cachar in collaboration with the Health Department, witnessed enthusiastic participation from officials, teachers, health workers and students. DC Yadav’s motivating address set the tone for the programme, reinforcing the need for regular health interventions such as the National Deworming Day to ensure a healthier future generation.

Earlier , in his welcome address, Rahul Ghose, DPM, NHM, who highlighted the significance of NDD in promoting child health and preventing worm-related infections. He was followed by Dr Shibananda Roy, Joint Director of Health Services, Cachar, who elaborated on the objectives of the initiative and underlined the role of periodic deworming in improving children’s nutritional uptake and academic performance.

 

The launch event was attended by several dignitaries, including, Deepa Das, Branch Officer (Health), Dr Rumel Tapadar, In-charge of Silchar Urban PHC, Sri Ujjal Das, DCM, NHM, Dr Gulbahar Raj, DME, Nabarun Chakraborty, BRP, and Amit Nag. Teachers and staff of the school, along with ANMs, ASHAs and Anganwadi Workers of the area, also participated, reflecting a strong community-driven approach.

 

In a symbolic gesture marking the official commencement of the NDD drive, DC Cachar administered Albendazole tablets to a few children who had their morning meal, formally initiating the district-wide deworming campaign. The event concluded with a shared commitment from all stakeholders to strengthen health awareness and ensure the well-being of Cachar’s young learners.
