DDMA Cachar asks NSS Coordinator to depute volunteers to manage hygiene behaviour in relief camps

May 21: Cachar is currently going through one of the worse flood situation and huge number of people are affected, who have taken shelter in relief camps. The camps are organized in existing infrastructures with basic minimum facilities. As such, the district is in need of volunteers who can support in the management of relief camps, particularly in Silchar town. It is in this backdrop that the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Cachar has sought the help of Prof. M Gangabhushan, Programme Coordinator of National Service Scheme (NSS), Cell of Assam University.

DDMA Cachar wrote, “The engagement of NSS volunteers will help to promote hygiene behaviors in camps, engage in activities with children etc. We will need atleast 50 volunteers in Silchar and will appreciate if NSS unit can come forward in this regard. There are at present 99 camps in Silchar town alone with 13,033 people.”

Responding to the appeal of DDMA Cachar, Prof Gangabhushan has immediately set himself to task and has been able to garner the consent from 70 volunteers within a few hours. He is in constant effort to mobile some more NSS volunteers.
