Sushmita Dev writes to Education Minister, demands independent inquiry & intervention to end impasse at Cachar College

way2barak Aug. 25: The untoward incident that happened at Cachar College, Silchar during the Recruitment Examination of 21 August has become the talk of the town. It is in this backdrop that TMC MP Sushmita Dev on 25 August wrote a letter to Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu and asked him to form an inquiry committee to find the facts of Cachar College incident.

MP Sushmita Dev wrote, “I am compelled to write to you in the circumstances that a situation has arisen and prevails in Cachar which is a cause for great concern regarding the incidents relating to Cachar College, Silchar. As you are aware that the Recruitment examination for Grade-III & IV jobs ran into serious troubles due to the fact that the Centres for Barak valley were clearly insufficient. It shows the casual attitude of the state govt. towards employment of the youths. I have already written on this issue to the Hon’ble Chief Minister with a copy to you.”

Saying so, Sushmita Dev highlighted the incident of Cachar College. She wrote, What has made matters worse is that allegedly there was an altercation between one teacher, Mr. Swadesh Ranjan Das and the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar and as is being reported the D.C. Cachar has assaulted the teacher. The students are protesting the fact that they were treated badly by the Administration and the next examination seems to be running into trouble too.”

“I hope you will intervene immediately to resolve this situation and set up an independent inquiry to look into the incidents of assault / mismanagement. If I may say so, I am quite disappointed with the failures of the Principal of the College who must be made accountable for what seems to be a serious dereliction of duty. This incident is unfortunate and has put a question mark on the otherwise prestigious institution of Cachar,” asserted Ms Dev.

She further wrote, “We take pride in our college which has an excellent reputation for quality education. This incident requires accountability of the people concerned and justice must be done through an immediate independent inquiry and intervention to end the impasse in the greater interest of the students, teachers and the College.”
