Assam secures 5th place in literacy rate in India

Sept. 7: As per a report on education released by the National Statistical Office (NSO), Assam has secured the 5th position in the country with a literacy rate of 85.9 percent. With 96.2 per cent literacy, Kerala has once again emerged as the most literate state in the country, while Andhra Pradesh was at the bottom with a rate of 66.4 per cent.

In Assam, the gap between male and female literacy is of 8.9 percentage points, with male literacy at 90.1 percent and female literacy at 81 percent. The report provides for state-wise detail of literacy rate among the persons aged seven years and above.

The 2nd, 3rd & 4th position in terms of literacy rate were secured by Delhi (88.7%), Uttarakhand (87.6%) and  and Himachal Pradesh (86.6%) respectively
