Leaving class & involve in staging protest by teachers is unacceptable: CM Assam
March 24: On Thursday, huge number of contractual TET teachers staged protest in front of the Sarba Siksha Abhijan (SSA) office at Kahilipara, Guwahati. Their prime demand was regularization of jobs and pay and other amenities at par with their regular counterparts. Since early morning, contractual TET teachers from various parts of the state started gathering in thousands outside the SSA office. However, police detained many such teachers who came to protest in Guwahati.
The agitating teachers argued that they were neglected by the state government. Many of them had been appointed as contractual TET teachers since the last ten years, but till now their services has not been made permanent. They also alleged that those who recently qualified TET were offered permanent jobs, whereas those working for long years were ignored.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Chief Minister Dr himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Whether school or college teachers, they should ideally not participate in protest. People of Assam is in quest of an agitation-free Assam. If the government does not provide anything, then they could knock the doors of the judiciary. Leaving class & involving in staging protest by teachers is unacceptable.
Earlier, during the ongoing Budget Session of Assam Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that around 16,000 TET qualified candidates will get appointment as teachers by June, 2022. He, however, also clarified that by mere qualifying TET, one should not think that he/she will be automatically appointed as teacher.
