188 PSU’s created & 10 privatised by 11 PM’s in last 70 yrs, PM Modi created none & privatised 23 in 8 yrs: Ripun Bora

Feb. 3: Congress MP from Assam, Ripun Bora, while speaking in response to the Presidential address in the Rajya Sabha launched a scathing attack upon the Narendra Modi led-BJP government on Thursday. Speaking about privatisation of Public Sector Undertakings (PSU), Ripun Bora said, “There is a saying in my village “An incompetent son sells all the properties given by his father and then blames his father for not giving him anything” The current claims of the Government of India are also similar.”

He narrated that in last 70 years 11 Prime Ministers created 188 PSU’s and privatised only 10 of them, while in the last 8 years PM Modi has not created a single PSU but rather privatised 23 of them.

Drawing on the history of PSU’s in India, MP Bora said, “Yes, it’s true that we have not done anything in the last 70 years. But what has BJP done? As per data of NITI Ayog, the 1st Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru created 33 PSU’s and no privatisation. Lal Bahadur Shastri created 5 PSU’s but no privatisation. Indira Gandhi created 66 numbers of PSU and no privatisation. Morarji Desai created 9 PSU’s but no privatisation. Rajib Gandhi created 16 numbers of PSU’s and no privatisation. VP Singh created 2 PSU’s but no privatisation. PV Narshima Rao created 14 PSU’s but did not go for a single privatisation. IK Gujral and HD Deva Gowda created 3 numbers of PSU’s and no privatisation. Atal Bihari Vajpayee created 17 PSU’s and 7 privatisations. Dr Manmohan Singh created 23 number of PSU’s and only 3 privatisations. And our Viswa Guru Prime Minister Narendra Modi during 8 years of his tenure created not a single PSU and rather privatised 23 PSU’s.” He added, “So this is what we have done in 70 years and you have done in 8 years.”

Ripun Bora further said, “The GOI had claimed that not a single Indian citizen went hungry during the pandemic, but the bitter truth is that India is ranked 101 in the Global Hunger Index ranking, far behind countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan.”

“The income of about 84 crore people out of India’s 138 crore population has come down drastically during the pandemic, but the President’s address did not have a roadmap to improve the Indian economy,” added the Congress MP from Assam. He finally said, “The GOI does not trust its ministers, Opposition leaders, election commission, Judiciary, Indian army, students, common citizens etc. So they bought Pegasus Spyware from Israel to spy on us.”
