Assam Congress is now divided into multiple groups & each are like a club: MLA Karim Uddin

April 14: “There are multiple groups now among the Congress party in Assam. In Barak, we have Kamalakhya group & anti- Kamalakhya group, in Brahmaputra, we have Bhupen Bora group & Ripun Bora group, Debobrata Saikia group & Rockibul Hussain group etc. So all these small groups within the Congress are like clubs.” This was said by AIUDF MLA from Sonai, Karim Uddin Barbhuiya (Shaju) at Sildubi on Thursday where around 400 workers from Sonai Congress ceremonially joined AIUDF.

The AIUDF MLA further said, “It’s all not well for the Congress party. After the defeat of Congress in the recently concluded Rajya Sabha elections, APCC President Bhupen Bora said that post-Eid festival, the Congress will start an expedition in 15 constituencies of the state, which were under the grip of AIUDF. However, prior to that, large numbers of Congress workers left the party and joined AIUDF on Thursday. Today we have Congress-mukt Sonai”.

On the issue of Siddeque Ahmed being suspended from the Congress party for cross voting during the recently concluded Rajya Sabha elections, MLA Karim Uddin said, “Siddeque Ahmed is a big leader. What makes me feel bad is that 9 Congress MLA’s cross voted during the Rajya Sabha elections, but the party made a vocal Muslim leader like that of Siddeque Ahmed as the scapegoat.” On the question of whether Siddeque Ahmed will now join AIUDF, MLA Sonai said, “This is the prerogative of the party President.”

When infighting among the ranks and profile of Silchar District Congress Congress Committee has exposed the hollowness of the party, a large group of Congress workers decided to leave the party and join AIUDF. More than 400 Congress workers including its Mandal, GP, AP representatives, Youth Congress members left the party and joined its present rival AIUDF in a programme organised at Sildubi in presence of Sonai MLA Karim Uddin Barbhuiya (Shaju).
