Bike rider dies in an accident at Lakhipur

৩ জানুয়ারিঃ সড়ক দুর্ঘটনায় লক্ষ্মীপুরে এক যুবকের মৃত্যু হয়েছে। নিহতের নাম সুজিত দত্ত। বিন্নাকান্দিঘাটে তাঁর দা-কোদাল তৈরির দোকান। মূল বাড়ি হরিনগরে। অনেকদিন ধরে স্ত্রী ও দুই সন্তানকে নিয়ে লক্ষ্মীপুর পৌর এলাকার দুই নম্বর ওয়ার্ডের দুর্গাপল্লীতে ভাড়া থাকেন তিনি। বুধবার রাত সাড়ে ৮টা নাগাদ দোকান বন্ধ করে বিন্নাকান্দিঘাট থেকে বাড়িতে ফিরছিলেন। পথে নয়াগ্রামে দুইজনকে রাস্তা পেরোতে দেখে নিয়ন্ত্রণ হারিয়ে ফেলেন। এক যুবককে ধাক্কা মেরে নিজে ছিটকে পড়েন মোটর সাইকেল থেকে অনেকটা দূরে।

এলাকার মানুষ জড়ো হলেও পুলিশের হয়রানির আশঙ্কা এবং মামলা-মোকদ্দমার ভয়ে কেউ তাকে উদ্ধারে হাত লাগাননি। বারবার পুলিশকে খবর পাঠান। আধঘণ্টা পরে পুলিশ গিয়ে তাকে উদ্ধার করে শিলচর মেডিক্যাল কলেজে হাসপাতালে পাঠায়। সেখানেই রাতে তার মৃত্যু হয়। পুলিশ জানিয়েছে, মৃতদেহ ময়না তদন্তের জন্য মর্গে পাঠানো হয়েছে।

January 3: A man from Lakhipur in Cachar district lost his life in a street accident. The deceased has been identified as Sujit Dutta. He has a shop at Binnakandighat. His permanent residence is at Harinagar. Since a long period of time, he was staying in a rented house at Durgapally area of Lakhipur along with his wife and two children. On Wednesday night at around 8, Sujit closed his shop and was returning from Binnakandighat to his home. On his way, at Nayagram he lost control when he saw two persons crossing the road. He hit one person and himself fell down from his motorbike.

Though people of the locality gathered at once but none came forward to rescue him on fear of legal intricacies. They informed the police, who reached the spot after half an hour. He was then sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital where he died later on in the night. Police sources informed that his body has been sent for post-mortem.
