Debashish Roy’s new book ‘The Refugees & their Identity Crisis’ hits the stands

Feb. 28: Partition, refugees and identity crisis is a common phenomenon engulfing the lives of people living in South Assam. However, there were still dearth of scholarly works on this issue while discussing partition and its aftermath in Barak Valley. It is in this backdrop that a book by Dr. Debashish Roy has shed light on the lesser known aspects on the basis of documentary evidence. Dr. Roy’s new book “The Refugees & their Identity Crisis: A History of Cachar (1950-54)” has hit the stands and has been widely acclaimed in the academic coterie.

This book primarily discusses the refugee issue in Cachar. A documentary report on the condition of the displaced persons Relief and Rehabilitation activities and Refugee Movement in Cachar by Premendra Mohan Goswami is also included as documentary evidence to highlight the issues of Refugee Movement in Cachar as a national phenomena. Dr. Debashish Roy is the Principal of Radhamadhab College, Silchar. Prior to this, he was an Associate Professor & Head, Department of History, Radhamadhab College, Silchar. Presently, he is working on land revenue system of Cachar and environmental history.
