Anundoram Borooah Award 2020 given to 16,944 meritorious students of Assam
Sept. 30: The Anundoram Borooah Award 2020 was handed over to the meritorious students on Wednesday who passed the High School Leaving Examination (HSLC) with distinction marks. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowaland State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma handed over Rs.20,000 each to 16,944 students from Assam in lieu of laptops. A sum of Rs. 34 crore has been released for this.
In a tweet, State Education MinisterHimanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Celebrating academic excellence! Glad to distribute the Anundoram Borooah Awards among 16,944 meritorious students on scoring 75% or more in HSLC exams. This year, GoA has disbursed Rs 34 cr, Rs 20K to each student to buy laptops. Best wishes to all bright students.”

Earlier, the students were given laptops, but this year due to ongoing coronavirus pandemic they were given cash amount. Himanta Biswa Sarma, however, told that a feedback from the students would be taken whether laptops should be given or cash amount in lieu of laptop.
