Cachar observes 7th International Day of Yoga in a befitting manner

June 21: Along with the rest of the nation, the 7th International Day of Yoga was observed in Cachar district in a befitting manner. A programme was held on the occasion to observe the day at India Club Indoor Stadium, Silchar which was organised by District Administration Cachar in collaboration with District Health Society here on Monday.

MLA Silchar, Dipayan Chakraborty, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar Keerthi Jallli, Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Nimbalkar Vaibhav Chandrakanta, Chief Executive Officer incharge Health, EL Faihraem participated in the programme. At the outset all the dignitaries present were felicitated with traditional gamocha followed by lightning of lamp by the dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Silchar Dipayan Chakraborty said, “Yoga is an ancient Indian practice that helps in maintaining both physical and mental well being, and over the years, it has found popularity in other countries as well. In 2014, our Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modiji proposed marking the day as the International Day of Yoga in his address at the UN General Assembly and the proposal was endorsed by 175 member nations following which the United Nations recognised June 21 as International Day of Yoga”.

Yoga Has Played Big Role In Uniting The World PM Modi - BW BusinessworldHe said that over the past one and half years, yoga has gained more importance due to corona pandemic, and accordingly the theme for this year’s Yoga Day is ‘Yoga for well being’. “It should be our moral duty to build an immune, healthier and stronger India by adopting yoga as an effective adjunct to prevent such pandemics. So, I urge everyone to adopt yoga as a lifestyle that is based on science of holistic living,” he added.

While delivering her speech, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar Keerthi Jalli said, “People, and youths in particular must inculcate values to keep themselves fit and healthier. A healthy lifestyle keeps illnesses at bay and here lies the habit of routine exercise and planned diet. Yoga is the great ingredient towards leading a healthy life. “Our youth needs to be aware of this and to maintain a healthy body and mind, they should develop a habit of exercising regularly,” she added.

Emphasising on balanced eating, she said, “People should avoid eating junk foods. Therefore, I advise you all to consume low-fat foods, less oily food, home cooked items at home, you should eat healthy and digestible foods. Together with a healthy body, there is need for a healthy mind. So, it is important to do yoga/ pranayama on a regular basis”.

“In the past, everyone was accustomed to physical labour in various ways through hard work, farming, etc, but with the changing times, people are now less interested to do physical work for which they are endangering their lives by inviting various diseases, etc. Therefore, in order to protect themselves from all sorts of diseases and to lead a healthy, better and happier life, everyone should do exercises regularly and practice yoga, pranayama etc,” Jalli quipped.

Superintendent of Police, Vaibhav Nimbalkar Chandrakanta asked everyone to do regular yoga exercises, maintain good hygiene and develop healthy eating habits to build a healthy body. Later, different yoga postures and meditation were performed under the supervision of yoga instructor, Sukumar Nath by DC Jalli, Police Super Chandrakanta, MLA Silchar, Dipayan Chakraborty, Chief Executive officer incharge, Health, Faihraem and other officials. District Media Expert, National Health Mission, Suman Chowdhury, District Programme Officer, National Health Mission, Rahul Ghose were also present on the occasion.
