Google photos to end free unlimited from June 2021

Google to delete data from inactive accounts that have not been signed in for at least 2 years

Nov. 12: In a latest development, Google has announced that it will soon start charging for Google Photos storage once users upload more than 15GB on their account. The change will happen on 1 June, 2021. Launched in 2015, Google Photos gained huge popularity among smartphone users, thanks to the free storage benefit it offered. Google highlights in its blog post that over four trillion photos are stored on Google Photos, with 28 billion new photos and videos uploaded every week.

However, if users still want to use hassle-free services provided by Google, they can simply avail the Google One subscription that is available in India for starting Rs 130 per month (100GB storage). The top plan of Rs 650 per month includes 2TB storage along with other benefits like access to Google experts, option to add family members, and more.

Google is additionally bringing a policy to delete data from inactive accounts that have not been signed in for at least two years. The only users that will be exempt from this policy change are Pixel smartphone users, who will still be able to upload “high quality” photos without any limits after June next year.
