Gunotsav begins in 6 districts of Assam including Cachar & Hailakandi

Aug. 4: Assam conducted Gunotsav for the 1st time when Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma was the Education Minister during the Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP government in the state. However, with the change of guards in the Education Ministry, it was later discontinued. Now again, the state government has conducted Gunotsav. Due to flood, Gunotsav was postponed in some of the districts.

Gunotsav in 6 districts of Assam was rescheduled from 3 to 6 August, 2022. These six districts are Cachar, Hailakandi, Dima Hasao, Hojai, South Salmara and Mankachar. Apart from this, the left-out schools of Barpeta, Morigaon, Kamrup and Lakhimpur districts also are conducting Gunotsav.

On the 3rd of August, 2022, Self Evaluation of Gunotsav was conducted in these 6 districts including Cachar. A total of 2,317 schools in Cachar are participating in Gunotsav, 2022. On the day of Self Evaluation, 88.85 percent students were present in the 2,317 schools of Cachar district. The total enrolment in these 2,317 schools of the district is 2,46,166, Altogether, 891 External Evaluators were deputed in the schools of Cachar during Gunotsav.

On the 4th of August, the 1st day, a total of 89.24 percent of students were present in the schools of the district where Gunotsav was held. This year, the main objective behind the conduct of Gunotsav was to identify the learning gaps of the students which primarily occurred due to two years of lockdown induced by the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.

The External Evaluators went around the schools, examined minutely each and every aspect and conducted tests in subjects and skills. Apart from interacting with the students, they also interacted with the School Managing Committee, Mother’s Group and people from the Community. Officers of SSA Cachar also went around different schools of the district for ensuring smooth conduct of this exercise. Gunotsav will continue on 5th and 6th of August.

Gunotsav, is an initiative of the State Government focuses mainly on assessment of learning outcomes of children for identifying learning gaps and subsequently designing remedial measures for improvement. The evaluation consists of scholastic, co-scholastics, community participation covering Class I to IX and based on the performance of students assessment will be made. Accordingly schools are evaluated based on 90% on Scholastic, 5% each on Co-scholastics and Community participation. It may be mentioned that the tools ( question papers) have also been prepared on the basis of Learning Outcomes. After analysing the learning levels and identifying the learning gaps, suitable strategic action plan is expected to be designed to improve, where necessary.
