Rules for CAA to be framed once the vaccination drive for precautionary does is over: Amit Shah
Aug. 2: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that the the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will be implemented once the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination drive for the precautionary does is over in the country is over. Shah has been maintaining that the CAA will be implemented despite resistance from opposition parties.
Senior BJP leader from West Bengal Suvendu Adhikari said on Tuesday that Home Minister Amit Shah suggested that the rules for Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) that seeks to give citizenship to illegal Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian migrants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, could be framed once the vaccination drive for the Covid precautionary dose is over. Suvendu Adhikari said that the home minister conveyed the same to him during a meeting at the Parliament House on Tuesday to discuss the organisational functioning of the West Bengal BJP.
The law was passed by Parliament on 11 December, 2019 and the Act was notified within 24 hours on December 12. However, its implementation has remained stuck as the rules have not been framed yet.
