Minister Suklabaidya hoists tricolour in Silchar, thanks individuals, NGO’s who helped people during flood

Aug. 15: Minister of Transport, Excise & Fisheries, Parimal Shuklavaidya hoisted the National Flag at the Police Parade Ground on Monday at the central function of Cachar district on the occasion of the 76th Independence Day. Before hoisting the flag, the Minister was greeted by the ceremonial performance of Assam Police, CRPF, NCC Scouts and Guides and other security agencies.

Highlighting the achievements of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led state government, Parimal Suklabaidya said, “Due to the constant visits of the Chief Minister himself and other ministers in various districts of Assam. This has resulted in a direct relationship between the people and the government and has in turn helped in confidence building. During the recent flood, the Chief Minister visited Silchar thrice and tried to alienate the sufferings of the people. Due to his intervention, the flood victims have got sufficient ration.”

“The state govt has also taken a strong role against drugs and criminals. As a result, an atmosphere of peace is now prevailing in the state. Proper action has also been taken against fundamental and extremist forces that raised their ugly heads in the state. Also, positive steps were taken to contain cyber crime,” said the minister.

As regards developmental projects, Minister Suklabaidya said, “In the education sector, Assam govt has set up new schools, colleges and universities. Education in tea garden areas were given special emphasis. Also, roads and bridges were constructed to enable smooth communication. Under Project Mission Amrit, steps were taken to dig 75 Amrit Sarovar in each of the districts. The state govt has also helped to construct 20,84,070 houses from 2016 to 2021-22. Further, a total of 23.83 lakh old age pension, Dibyang pension and widow pension were disbursed as part pf social responsibility. Till 1 March 2022, 2,39,45,034 persons were given rice free of cost under Food Security Act, 2013. Special provisions were also implemented for the welfare of the farmers.”

Referring to the inter-state conflict between Assam & Mizoram in 2021, Parimal Suklabaidya stated that efforts were made to ease the relationship between the two states. Series of discussions were made between them to normalise the situation and solve the border issues. He also said that Rs.2 lakh per head was sanctioned for those wounded during the Assam agitation. As regards the Assamese Muslims residing in the state since long time, the minister said that his government has has come up with measures for their overall development.

As regards reforms in the Transport Department, Minister Suklabaidya said, “Around 40 online services were launched by the government as per which people can sit at home and avail them instead of going personally to DTO office.” He also highlighted the positive moves made by the government in the fisheries and agricultural sectors. “In the year 2021-22, an amount of Rs 1930.67 crore excise duty was realised by the Excise department. In the same period, 26,97,086 litres of illegal and spurious liquor was seized and 3,357 arrests were made. In the health sector, work is going on in full swing of 7 new medical colleges in the state. In 2022, free text books were given to 41,51,489 students. Further under Amrut, works of 15 projects were going on in the state. Under Jal Jeevan Mission, 23,30,296 houses were provided drinking water connections in the state.

As regards the devastating recent flood in Cachar, Minister Parimal Suklabaidya said, “A total of 26,422 pucca houses and 54,374 kuchha houses were partially damaged. These flood victims will soon get compensation from the government. The major dykes have been temporarily repared as of now to prevent the occurrence of any major flood again.” The minister also thanked all individuals, NGO’s who came forward to help the people during the flood. he also thanked the government officials who discharged their duties for the service of the people during the people.”

“Till now, 17,19,445 people have enrolled for Aadhaar in Cachar district. Further, 9,40,919 beneficiaries have linked Aadhaar with Ration Cards. Again, 1,53,412 persons in Cachar were provided with Ayushman Bharat PMJOY cards. Apart for these various infrastructural development works in respect of construction of educational institutions, roads were going on,” said the Minister. He also congratulated the district cricket team for winning the Nuruddin Trophy.

Parimal Suklabaidya stressed upon the role of the state government in increasing awareness among the people about loans available along with subsidy for development projects. As regards growing of pineapples, mangoes, bamboo products, the minister said that these products are now finding their place in the markets of not only other parts of India but also in abroad. 68,909 farmers of the district are given Rs.2,000 every three months PM Krishak Samman Nidhi. 432 farmers in Cachar were given tractors and 153 were given power tillers at a subsidised rate.

“Efforts were also taken to make Cachar self-sufficient in fish production. 25,000 hectare wetland was made conducive for fish farming. 5,762 persons were brought under Fishermen Insurance. A total of 1.932 persons were getting Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension in the district, whereas, 5,431 were in receipt of Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension. Further, 64,155 were being given Sahid Kushal Konwar old age pension. Under Project Basundhara, land settlement were made of 24,044 land holdings. Our government is also implementing various schemes for the development of tea community in Cachar. Also, teachers at various levels of the school in the district were also appointed recently, added the minister.
