Hailakandi Municipal Board awarded best city in innovation & best practices in NE in Swachh Survekshan 2021

Nov. 22: Hailakandi Municipal Board of Hailakandi District has has been awarded the best city in innovation and best practices in the Northeast zone in the category having population (25,000 to 50,000) in Swachh Survekshan 2021, under Swachh Bharat Mission (urban).

The award has been handed over by the Secretary, Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs,Durga Shankar Mishra to Md Ibrahim Laskar, City Project Officer SBM(U) Hailakandi Municipality Board, Santanu Deb, Office Superintendent, Hailakandi MB in Swachh Amrit Mahotsav which was held at Vigyan Bhaban, New Delhi under Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt of India on Saturday.

It is pertinent to mention that as many as 342 cities were conferred with some star rating in this year’s annual cleanliness survey, with a total of 4,320 cities taking part in it. The Union ministry of housing and urban affairs (MOHUA) that conducted the ‘Swachh Survekshan 2021’ awards with the Quality Council of India (QCI) under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) said in a statement earlier that the sixth edition of the event has become the “world’s largest urban cleanliness survey.”

It’s worth mentioning that the first survey was launched in 2016 with a total of 73 cities involved, which increased to 4,242 cities by 2020. The objective of the survey is to encourage Indian cities and towns to implement mission initiatives in a timely and innovative way. Hailakandi MB also won the Best City in Innovation and Best Practices in Swachh Survekshan 2020.
