Zubeen Garg, famous Assamese singer, dies in scuba diving accident in Singapore

Guwahati, September 19 : Famous Assamese singer, Zubeen Garg is no more. His death comes as a shock to the entire nation and to his many lovers and fans. The 52-year-old singer was known for his melodious voice and his iconic contribution to Assamese music. He was in Singapore, where he had to attend the Northeast Festival, and his performance was scheduled on September 19, 2025.
Zubeen was in Singapore, where he was scuba diving. However, the sport which he was doing for fun turned into a cause of death. Zubin fell into the sea as he made a dive. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors tried their best to save him. Despite all the efforts to revive him, he passed away.
Zubeen’s untimely demise in a fatal paragliding accident marks the end of a beautiful musical era. His songs portrayed the cultural landscape of the Northeast. For many, his songs were an ode to their roots and identity. Ever since the news of his death surfaced, fans, fellow artists and people around the world touched by his music are paying their tribute.
Zubeen Garg started singing at the young age of three. His first album, Anamika, was released in 1992. Soon, his Assamese albums such as Maya, Zubeenor Gaan, Xabda, Pakhi, Shishu, and Jantra became a rage among people of all ages. He has also sung in Hindi films such as Dil Se, Vaastav, Fiza, Asoka, Kaante, Gangster, Krissh 3, and more. It is worth mentioning that it was his song Ya Ali from Gangster which made him a nationwide love.
Earlier, in May 2025, Zubeen was hospitalised after he experienced chest pain and nausea during the premiere of an Assamese film, Bhaimon Da, in Guwahati. Later, it was reported that Zubeen had a serious gastric issue, and it was identified as the cause of his discomfort. No one had thought that the same year, Zubeen would pass away during a fatal paragliding mishap.
