Youth alleges attack by VHP during protest march in Silchar, lodge FIR; VHP denies charge

DGP Assam Police, GP Singh directs SP Cachar to look into the matter

Oct. 18: The Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has expressed outrage over the attacks on shrines and temples in various parts of Bangladesh. On Monday, supporters of VHP took out a huge a bike rally in Silchar and later assembled in front of the statue of Khudiram. Meanwhile, a youth from the minority community identified as Jabir Ahmed Barbhuiya, who hails from Kalain in Cachar district has lodged an FIR with Silchar Sadar Police Station wherein he has alleged that he was attacked by some youths from the rally with a glass bottle when he was in the vicinity of the office of the DC Cachar.

As per sources, the youth sustained injuries on his head and was rushed to the hospital. Later on, another youth FA Barbhuiya taking to his twitter handle posted the picture of the allegedly injured Jabir Ahmed Barbhuiya and wrote, “Was he attacked for wearing cap and keeping beard? We demand arrest of the culprits.” In the same tweet, the twitterati tagged @DGPAssamPolice, @assampolice, @cacharpolice, @gpsinghips, @dccachar,  @himantabiswa, @CMOfficeAssam and @mygovassam.

Reacting to the tweet GP Singh, Special DGP L&O, Director V&AC & Chief Anti-Rhino Poaching Task Force, Assam, has directed the Cachar Superintendent of Police Ramandeep Kaur to look into the matter.

On the other hand, President of Cachar chapter of Viswa Hindu Parishad, Santanu Naik categorically denied the allegation and rather said that this is an attempted to defame VHP as their rally did not pass through the point where the youth has alleged to have been attacked by boys wearing saffron clothes. “No VHP member was involved in any such act,” added Mr Naik.
