Himanta Urges Jayanta To Apologise For Remarks Against Journalist

way2barak June 28 : Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has publicly criticized and urged his cabinet colleague Jayanta Malla Baruah to apologize for allegedly making inappropriate remarks against a journalist. The Chief Minister described his comments as “inappropriate and unacceptable”. He even extended a personal apology on behalf of the government, emphasizing the need to respect the press and journalistic integrity.

The controversy has drawn criticism and demands for an apology from journalist bodies across Assam, including the Media Association of Assam and Guwahati Press Club.

The remarks were reportedly made during a June 27 press conference while addressing questions about the Gir cow controversy.

CM Sarma emphasized the importance of treating everyone equally and apologizing for any wrongdoing. He also highlighted the need to differentiate between working journalists and media ownership, stating that politicians’ criticisms are often directed at media owners rather than journalists.

The incident has led to protests and demands for accountability from the media fraternity, with many calling for a formal apology from Minister Baruah. The Chief Minister’s intervention aims to resolve the issue and restore harmony between the government and the media.
