Voters’ Awareness Programme in Women’s College

way2barak, April 18: A voters’ awareness programme was organised jointly by Electoral Literacy Club, Women’s College and NSS unit of Women’s college Silchar on 16th of April in the Women’s College Auditorium. The Voters’ Awareness Programme, being conducted on the eve of the Indian General Election 2024, aimed to educate and empower students on the electoral process, voter registration, and the importance of participating in democratic elections. The event featured a talk by Dr. Avinandan Choudhury, Head of the Political Science Department of Women’s College, Silchar; focusing on voter registration by citing the eligibility criteria, documents required, and the process for registering as a voter; and the voting process, including the mechanics of casting votes in polling booths Quiz Competition on India’s Electoral System and Political Parties. The programme concluded with an engaging quiz competition designed to test participants’ knowledge of India’s electoral system and political parties. The quiz comprised questions ranging from the structure of government, election procedures, to the ideologies and symbols of various political parties. Participants enthusiastically participated, showcasing their understanding of democratic principles and electoral dynamics.A small Rangoli making event on the theme of the programme was also heldsimultaneously.The Voters’ Awareness Programme served as a vital platform for disseminating knowledge and fostering civic engagement among students and community members. Through the insightful talk and the interactive quiz competition, participants gained valuable insights into the electoral process and their role as responsible citizens in shaping the democratic fabric of the nation. Such initiatives play a crucial role in enhancing voter awareness and participation, thereby strengthening the foundations of democracy in India.
