Vaccination to start for those between 15-18 years from 3 January, 2022: PM Modi

Frontline workers & those above 60 years with comorbidities to also given precautionary dose

Dec. 25: In an important declaration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation on the Christmas evening announced that vaccine jabs will now be administered to those between 15 to 18 years in the country. This exercise will begin from 3 January, 2022. He said that this decision will help fight the nation against Covid-19 and will also ease the tension of the parents and guardians whose children study in schools and colleges.

He further stated that the frontline and healthcare warriors has played a major role in the country. They still are engaged in serving the people infected with coronavirus. The Prime Minister said that it is for their further protection that the frontline and healthcare warriors of the country will be provided with an added dose of Covid vaccine. This dose was termed by the PM as “Precautionary Dose”, which will be administered from 10 January, 2010.

PM Modi also stated that those who are aged and also those who have comorbidities are more vulnerable to Covid-19. They require more precaution. “Those above 60 years of age having comorbidities will also be given a precautionary dose, but of course on the advice off their doctors. This will also be started from 10 January, 2022, stated the Prime Minister.

Further, on Saturday, Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) on December 25 gave nod to Bharat Biotech’s vaccine, Covaxin, for emergency use for kids aged 12-18 years. Covaxin is now the second vaccine in India that has received clearance for use for children.
