R-Day: Indian tune played during parade instead of British tune for 1st time

January 26: Breaking off the colonial legacy, ‘Shankhnaad’ a martial tune created for the Indian armed forces was played for the first time during the Republic Day parade at New Delhi on Saturday. Earlier the martial tune created by the British was used during the Republic Day parade since the independence of the country.

‘Shankanadh’, based on Indian classical music was composed by Dr Tanuja Nafde, a vocalist (Hindustani classical), academician and composer from Nagpur. The tune cleared all the administrative approvals and was subsequently dedicated to the nation on October 7, 2018, as the martial tune for all defence forces. The song based on a poem written by Brigadier Vivek Sohal glorifies the achievement and contribution of the Manar regiment. The 70th Republic Day will definitely go down in the annals of history in this regard.
