Trucks entering Assam with essential goods probable carrier of corona in Guwahati: HBS
June 13: After preliminary observation, it can be said that there are some connection between rising number of coronavirus cases and the entry of trucks in the state. Truck drivers cannot be quarantined as per direction of Government of India because these trucks bring essential commodities. State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said this during a press briefing in Guwahati on Saturday.
The minister said that in Guwahati, 25 people who tested positive do not have any travel history or direct contact with any positive persons. This has baffled the health department. Saying so, Biswa Sarma mentioned that the trucks which come to Assam with essential commodities are possible carrier of COVID-19. He said that these 25 patients are somehow related to areas having godown and parking of these trucks.
Finally, the minister said that godowns, parking, petrol pumps, highway hotels and the like where truck drivers usually enter and halt will be put under surveillance. Screening centres will be started at places where trucks are loaded and unloaded in Guwahati.
