Tough fight in Jorhat between two present MPs

way2barak, April 15: In Jorhat, there is a direct fight between the two Gogoi’s and between two present MPs.  BJP MP Tapon Kumar Gogoi is seeking re-election. For Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, Jorhat is in a way home turf as his family members have in past represented this constituency.

BJP has deployed batteries of leaders including chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Jorhat. Several cabinet ministers are camping there.

Gaurav is moving door to door not initiating big rallies and meetings. Assam chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Jorhat needs an MP who talks about Jorhat in parliament not Manipur. “Jorhat does not need an MP who will only criticise Prime minister Narendra Modi but will work for the development of Jorhat.”

BJP is confident that its organisational strength and welfare measures of the government will ensure that BJP will win this seat.

Jorhat was a Congress bastion but since 2014, BJP won this seat twice. The constituency, which covers 10 assembly seats. The seat is a bastion of the Ahom community.

Gaurav is campaigning and recalling the 15-year tenure of his father as the chief minister. He said, “Assam was in shambles when my father took over as the chief minister and he brought back the peace and rebuilt the state.”
