The Final Touch: Congress-BJP’s campaign ends at high note in Silchar

April: As the campigning for the second phase of Lok Sabha polls came to an end on Tuesday evening, both Congress and BJP candidates and supporters came their last bit of effort to reach out to the maximum of electorates. Congress took out a massive bike rally at Barakpar. A similar bike rally was also organised by the BJP. Sushmita Dev also walked the streets of the town along with her followers.

Many street corner lectures were also delivered at various parts of the town by Sushmita Dev. She was accompanied by Tamal Kanti Banik among others in alomost all spots where she campaigned. Tamal’s involvement in Sushmita’s campaign is regarded by many to have created a very postive effect. BJP supporters too were found campaigning door to door and throughout the streets of the town. It was indeed a high voltage campaign by both the teams.

At Silchar, sitting MP Sushmita Dev is contesting as a Congress candidate as against the BJP candidate Dr. Rajdeep Roy. Both of them has inherited a career in politics as a family legacy. Sushmita Dev is the daughter of the former Union Minister of Congress Santosh Mohan Dev, whereas, Dr. Rajdeep Roy is the son of former BJP MLA from Silchar, Late Bimalangshu Roy.

A total of 13 candidates are contesting for the prestigious Silchar seat, but in fact the main battle of ballot will be between the Congress and BJP. Here, a total of 11.9 Lakh voters will decide the fate of the 13 candidates. Silchar will go for the polls on 18 April and the results for the same will be declared on 23 May, 2019.
