Class X girl from Assam joins ULFA

November 15: A teenage girl from Phaneng village under Lekhapani police station of Tinsukia district of Assam has joined the United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA) led by Paresh Baruah. This was confirmed by Mughda Jyoti Dev Mahanta, Superintendent of Police, Tinsukia.

Karishma Mech (19), a student of Class X is a kick-boxer and went missing from her home on 1 May 2018. Her mother is a daily wage worker. Karishma was supposed to participate in kickboxing championship in Kathmandu on 13 May.

Her mother confirmed that Karishma met with 3 suspected ULFA cadres in her neighbourhood a day before she went missing. The lady was all in tears and said that she has brought up Karishma with utmost difficulty after her father died when she was only 6 years old.

As per her mother, Karishma learnt kickboxing with the intention of joining police. She was at a loss to understand what motivated her daughter to take such a drastic step.
