Students Union of Assam University submits demand for a state univ to Himanta Biswa
Sept. 26: Assam University Students’ Union (AUSU) on Saturday submitted a memorandum to State Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma during his tour of Barak Valley. The memorandum signed by the President Biswarup Bhattacharjee, Vice President- Joydeep Nandi, General Secretary Aritra Dhar and Assistant General Secretary Suman Das raised the demand of a state university and more science colleges keeping in view of the rising number of students in this region.
Further, the memorandum also highlighted the dual issues of shortage of hostels and number of buses for the students of Assam University. Another issue highlighted by the Students’ Union is that of dilapidated road from Silchar to Hailakandi via Assam University. They urged upon the minister to get the road repaired at the earliest. They further demanded a mineral water plant inside the campus.
Finally, AUSU also raised the issue of the now defunct Cachar Paper Mill at Panchgram. they highlighted that as the mill is shut since the last 5 years, so the children of the mill employees devoid of the salary of their parents are finding it tough to continue their studies. So they urged upon the minister to look after the children of the Panchgram paper mill employees.
